Every big business starts as a small one—Huon Aquaculture (Huon) started out in 1986 in Dover’s picturesque Hideaway Bay as the Bender family business. In 1994, Peter and Frances Bender bought out the family and began to expand Huon by contract-growing salmon. They continued with this model until 2005 when they stepped out and began to grow, market and sell their own Huon Salmon and Ocean Trout.
In 2014, Huon took the step to list on the Australian Securities Exchange in an effort to raise a significant amount of capital to expand and further modernise the business.
Fast forward to today, and Huon employs over 700 people, farms Huon Salmon and Ocean Trout, sells fish across Australia and internationally, and leads the world in farming technologies such as our smart feed system.

Two years on from the initial approval in July 2018, fish welfare remains essential to every aspect of what we do. That’s why we are committed to meeting RSPCA’s detailed animal welfare standards, not just today, but every day.
Being able to supply Australia’s only range of RSPCA Approved Salmon means that consumers that care and want the best for themselves and their families can now do that with confidence by choosing Huon. With a growing number of Australians including fish in their diets, it’s important that caring consumers have the opportunity to choose a product that has been raised to a high standard of animal welfare – Huon are leading the way in offering Australians a humanely farmed salmon product.
This accreditation is important to Huon because animal welfare is important. Over the past several years as salmon consumption has increased, so has the desire for consumers to know more about the salmon that they are eating and by continuing to maintain RSPCA Approval animal welfare is front-of-mind for our staff and our consumers.
We believe that antibiotics should only be used as a last resort which is why we practice a holistic approach to farming. This approach is the reason why it has been five years since we last used antibiotics at sea, which was to treat a single pen of fish.

我們相信「抗生素」的使用是最後的手段,所以我們針對鮭魚的養殖做各種整體的科學分析後來實踐之,這也是我們這5年多以來在養殖上未使用任何抗生素的原因!
